PRESS RELEASE: CONTIKI INVITES FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO GIVE THE GIFT OF TRAVEL WITH ITS GIFT REGISTRY PROGRAM

Gift Registry is Ideal for Holiday Season, Birthdays, Graduations & Honeymoons

ANAHEIM, Calif. Nov 16, 2009 – Sick and tired of receiving the same tube socks and gargoyle thermal sweaters every holiday season or birthday? With the season of giving right around the corner and a budget to watch, Contiki Holidays, the industry leader in designed travel for 18-35-year-olds, offers a completely turn-key gift registry program. The registry allows gift givers to help travelers cover the cost of reaching iconic destinations such as England, France, Italy, and Spain.

The gift registry account, which is initially set up by the traveler, automatically alerts family and friends of the itinerary the traveler has chosen. They can then contribute funds towards the trip in less time than it takes to wrap a gift! The Contiki Gift Registry works in three simple steps:

1. Book your trip: Select from over a hundred vacation packages throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Egypt, Southeast Asia, USA, Canada and Mexico

2. Sign up for the registry: Incoming funds will be applied directly to your vacation through your online gift registry account.

3. Send your registry announcement to friends and family: As part of the registry program, Contiki will send announcement cards to everyone on your list.

“Contiki is proud to offer a cost-conscious user-friendly gift registry program that helps travelers pay for their trip,” said Michelle Murray, Director of Marketing at Contiki Holidays. “With the trip registry you know you’re getting a gift you want – one that won’t be lost, returned or forgotten!” To learn more about Contiki’s gift registry or to register, visit http://contiki.com/registry.

Press Release: CONTIKI OFFERS KICKBACKS ON GROUP TRAVEL

Group Programs Offer Cash-Back Incentives, “Age Flexible” Travel

ANAHEIM, CA – Contiki Holidays, the industry leader in expertly designed vacations, has developed two programs that offer both large and small group incentives for booking travel abroad. The programs, which are utilized by a wide-array of organizations including study abroad, culinary, religious and alumni programs, offer cash-back incentives and free travel for group leaders.

Contiki’s custom group travel program is designed for groups of 20 or more people and provides complimentary spaces for trip leaders. In conjunction with the program, Contiki is flexible with its 18-35 year old age range limit and allows students under the age of 18 and chaperones over 35 to travel with the group. A Contiki group specialist also works with the leader(s) to create a customized itinerary that aligns with the interests of the travelers. Each custom program includes hotel accommodations, daily transportation, a Contiki tour manager and breakfast daily. In addition, Contiki offers activities such as dinners, sightseeing tours and excursions that can be added on to any itinerary.

To meet the needs of smaller groups, Contiki offers incentive travel for members of alumni associations, sororities, fraternities and student clubs traveling with five to 20 people. This program blocks space on regular Contiki tours and provides the group with marketing support to help promote their selected trip. As a bonus, Contiki donates $75 – $150 to the group or charity of their choice for every person that books with the group. Once the group has reached 10 people, a free spot is given to the trip organizer and each traveler receives $25 – $50 in vouchers good for optional activities like sky diving, white water rafting, and wine tasting.

“Contiki will continue to put the most flexible options and valuable incentives in place to support group travel to many of the most beautiful and historic destinations in the world,” said Greg “Fish” Fischbein, President of Contiki Holidays. “Our group specialists are highly-trained experts experienced in delivering packages that reflect the interests of each group and delivering to that expectation with the utmost professionalism.”

Guest Post From: Nicole Valles, Contiki Marketing Coordinator

Tourism Italy organized a cross-country tour to educate consumers and travel agents alike on the wonders and beauty of Italy via their mobile education center and lounge. I decided to take the afternoon to visit Tourism Italy during their stop at the Irvine Spectrum Center here in sunny California.

The 53’ double-expandable trailer featured a café-style interior outfitted with comfortable guest seating, oversized photomurals and a series of large touch screen monitors that enable individuals to navigate their own personal tour of Italy’s 20 different regions.

Samples of chocolate and olive oil were available thanks to their sponsors, ensuring no one walked away empty handed. That coupled with all the great information on Italy and its many regions led to a very enriching experience.  Not to mention, the place totally reminded me of a nightclub.

Ciao!

Tips on Saving for a Contiki

BOOK IT SMART

  • There are some great airfare deals out there – do your research to find the best ones! Prices can vary throughout the week, so keep a watchful eye on the fares. Be flexible – departing/arriving Tuesday – Thursday can cut down the cost, and booking in advance will generally get you the most inexpensive tickets. Airlines are all about flash fares right now, so check out Twitter and sign up for e-newsletters to get their best offers.
  • Travel during what we in the biz call “shoulder” season. June – August is tourist central, as are holidays, which means flights are packed, the locals are out of town, lines are long, and old people are slow. Going in the spring or fall can often mean cheaper travel and fewer screaming children.
  • Duh – ask us! Check out Contiki.com for the latest deals, plus our Reservations team will do everything they can to make sure you get the most bang for your buck.

STOP SPENDING AS MUCH

  • We know it sucks, but we’re trying to help you save some cash here! Here’s the worst of it – cut back on going out. Chances are you already grapple with rational decisions (with money…) when you’re hammered, like ordering another drink, purchasing an entire pizza, or getting lost in a cab, so try to save yourself some trouble.
  • Release your inner accountant (what, doesn’t everyone have one?). Create a weekly or monthly budget, and analyze what you’re spending and where the wiggle room is. Work out how much you think your trip will cost including spending money – pull out your pocket protector and calculator and find out how much you need to save per week.
  • Brown bag it… Bring your lunch to work or school. Not eating out can save tons, plus you’ll probably eat healthier to save those other tons too.
  • Nix the little luxuries. It doesn’t have to be drastic – even switching from lattes to regular coffee can save a boatload of money. Lose the weekly mani/pedis, buy generic instead of name brands, rent a movie instead of going to the theater, bring a flask out… get creative!
  • Every time you see something you want to buy – check yourself before you wreck yourself. Do you reeeeally need it, or do you just want it? Guitar Hero can wait until you get back from traveling.
  • Saving is hard work! Reward yourself with something when you hit a big milestone, like your first $1,000 – otherwise you’ll get bored and increase your chances of blowing it all.

CASH IN

  • See if you can finagle your vacation time around paid days off.
  • Milk your friends and family – your birthday, Christmas, graduation, or other holidays/events are awesome excuses to ask for cash instead of presents. You might be thinking, “jeez Contiki, anything you can do to help?” Hell yeah! Sign up for our Gift Registry.
  • Don’t rack up credit card bills – pay them off! You can use them on your trip too.
  • Sell the crap you haven’t used in over a year on eBay.
  • Get a savings account going with a high percentage payback. You’ll earn more, plus they usually lock that stuff down so you can’t access it easily in your moments of weakness.
  • Try not to take out a loan – suck it up and save! If for some reason you don’t heed our advice and want to get a loan, ask your parents or loaded friend and swear that you’ll pay them back monthly. If they like you they probably won’t charge interest like a bank or knock out your kneecaps like the mob.

Contiki joins Chapman University on Race Day

We made an appearance over the weekend at the Toyota of Orange Chapman University 5K race and were able to show our support for the 2K race attendees and participants. We encountered several past passengers (even a client from 20 years ago!) and were able to introduce ourselves to many new faces. We passed out Contiki water bottles and key chains to the weary runners and checked out the other sponsors that included Minute Rice and Yoga Works (can you say health conscious??). All in all, it was a good morning despite the 6am start time but, like they say, the early bird catches the worm. Too bad worms are gross.
