“I loved this trip! It was 11 days packed with pure adrenaline rush, phenomenal landscape, and incredible people. Imagine ice-capped mountains, turquoise blue lakes, glaciers, hot springs, beaches, sheep everywhere, and all of that packed in one small island! It’s hard for me to choose only one highlight, as everything was so amazing. I skydived for the first time in my life, I soaked in natural hot springs after hiking a glacier, I kayaked in the picturesque Milford Sound, I danced and partied with cool people in the vibrant Queenstown, I discovered a new passion for Rugby, and I fell in love with the Maori culture…so much that I got a tattoo! The only recommendation I have is…DON’T WAIT AND GO!”

“I just got back from the most amazing trip to Australia where I did the 3-day Sydney Explorer and the Cairns Sunshine Trail with Whitsundays Sailing. I absolutely loved my time in Australia and saw a little bit of everything – wildlife, rainforest, cool cities, and amazing beaches. Australia truly has something for everyone. The highlight of my trip was the 2-day sailing trip in the Whitsundays. The water is so beautiful and we spent a day at Whitehaven Beach, which is the most beautiful beach I’ve ever been to!”
Colette has also been on Contiki’s European Discovery and New York Explorer. Which one does she want to do next? “I would definitely take the Grand Explorer. This tour does both the North and South Island so I’ll have an opportunity to do and see everything and it’s only 18 days including travel time!!”
“Territory and Outback is an active and outdoorsy tour, so lots of hiking, wildlife and nature – including swimming in waterfalls and taking a dip in natural hot springs. I was one of 3% of the population that got to see it rain on Uluru – that’s right I saw waterfalls come off Ayers Rock – amazing! Also the Kings Canyon Rim walk was beautiful and seeing the crocs in Katherine Gorge up close and personal was awesome. Another highlight for me was the overnight stay in Kings Canyon – literally sleeping under the stars, campfire and riding a camel!
My tour manager’s incredible wealth of knowledge really enhanced the trip. I learned a lot about life in the Outback, different Aboriginal cultures and a history of the country that I didn’t know much about. Of course one of the best parts of my Contiki was the people I met – I made friends with fellow Americans, Canadians, Brazilians, Europeans, a couple Kiwis and there were even a few Aussies on tour too.”
Ashley has spent several months studying abroad and traveling Australia’s east coast, and was looking for something more off the beaten path when she chose this trip. Right after, she spent a year working abroad for Contiki in New Zealand!
“Beaches and Reefs travels through all the hot spots from Sydney to Cairns. Beautiful beaches coupled with the laid-back attitude of the locals make the east coast of Australia unforgettable. It’s the perfect tour for someone wanting a combination of big cities and small beach towns. The highlight of my trip was sailing through the breathtaking aquamarine waters of the Whitsunday Islands. We saw humpback whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and jellyfish right next to our racing yacht! One of the crew members was a French chef looking for a new adventure, and she made sure we ate well.”
Allyson has also been on Contiki’s Egypt & The Nile trip. Her other travels include England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Malaysia, Israel, Palestine, Mexico and Canada.
