We’re excited to share some great news! Contiki’s 2011 Facebook campaign, “Get On the Bus!” is still garnering some major accolades in both the social media and travel community – and we couldn’t have done this without the participation and support from all of our Contiki fans who built buses, spread the word to their friends, and spread the Contiki love! Here’s a refresher of Contiki’s “Get On the Bus” campaign, if you’re curious.
Last year, we earned recognition for “Get On the Bus” as a Silver Award Winner in Travel Weekly’s Magellan Awards. We’re happy to announce that we can add not one but three more recognitions for this stellar social media campaign!
2012 Communicator Awards
This year, Contiki’s ‘Get On the Bus‘ campaign (courtesy of our friends at Affinitive) was the recipient of two awards at this year’s Communicator Awards, “the leading international awards program recognizing big ideas in marketing and communications.” Selected from a pool of 6,000 entries, Contiki’s “Get On the Bus” campaign won a Award of Excellence (gold – top honor) in Social Media and an Award of Distinction (Silver) in Viral Marketing!

2012 Travel+Leisure SMITTYs
This year, Travel+Leisure Magazine hosted the inaugural T+L Social Media in Travel and Tourism Awards, otherwise dubbed as the “SMITTYs”. Yesterday, the magazine announced that Contiki had received a SMITTY in the tour operator category for “Best Single Use of a Social Media Platform” for “Get on the Bus”! Our friends at Affinitive, who helped develop the campaign for Contiki, were on hand to accept the award on our behalf. Great work guys!
The 28 winners were selected by a panel of social media and travel industry pros including Jonathan Crowley, (Director of Business Development at Foursquare), Porter Gale (Virgin America’s former VP of Marketing), Clara Shih (CEO, Hearsay Social), Sree Sreenivasan (Professor and Dean of Columbia’s School of Journalism), Peter Shankman (consultant, blogger, founder of Help A Reporter Out (HARO)), and Andrew Zimmern (Creater and Host of “Bizarre Foods” on The Travel Channel.)
We’re so honored to be recognized by some of these prominent and influential figures in both social media and travel/tourism. We can only keep moving forward and doing more innovative things in 2012 and beyond. See you on social media!
