Guest Post by Kelley Last, Contiki traveler
Contiki is set up in a way that accommodates any kind of traveler: solo, with friends, or as a couple. If you choose to travel by yourself or decide not to have a roommate, you will still have an amazing time, but one of the best parts of Contiki is making friends and sharing rooms, buses and meals with your tourmates.
Here’s a few tips for getting along with your partner and getting the most out of your trip!
Give Each Other Space
You’re on a bus with each other everyday for two weeks or so, it could be easy to get on each other’s nerves. Remember to give each other some space a few times a day. Whether it’s an hour in the afternoon to walk around, or sitting with some new friends at dinner, make sure to catch some breathing room in between.
Be Aware of Sleep Schedules
Some travelers are just morning people who like to get up at the crack of dawn and start the day. Others are night owls who love to stay up late and soak in the evening excitement. If you and your roommate have unsynced schedules, don’t be afraid to use that time to do your own thing. Trying to talk to someone at 6am who is not an early riser is just looking for trouble.
Stay Organized
Keep your suitcase and your belongings organized, it will keep the peace and avoids petty arguments. This includes clothing, toiletries, souvenirs, snacks and travel documents.

Be Your Own Person
Just because you booked the trip together doesn’t mean you have to stay attached at the hip throughout the entire tour. Even the best of friends can have different interests and expectations. My husband loves to stay behind the group and photograph landscapes and landmarks. I love to hear all the details from the tour guides and prefer to stay closer to the front of the pack. Knowing this allows us to both enjoy the experience in our own separate ways.

Don’t Be Afraid to Meet New Friends
Sometimes we mix it up on our tours and choose to sit separately at meals, or swap seats on the bus. It gives us a chance to talk to new people and make new friends.

No matter your travel style, when the tour is over, you’ll be sure to have friends from all over the world. Your tourguide will give you a list at the end with everyone’s information on it. Don’t forget to stay in touch and share your pictures via facebook, twitter and email!
